Completed advertising banner framework on Woodcote A grandstand at Silverstone

Silverstone case study

Three grandstands. One immovable deadline.

Tube-and-fitting frameworks and tensioned cable supports installed for major advertising banners at Stirling A, Stirling B and Woodcote A.

PROJECT / EVENTS / 01

Project overview

Advertising infrastructure built around live grandstands.

Veritas was tasked with creating the support framework that allowed large digitally printed mesh banners to be fitted across three Silverstone grandstands. The structure had to follow each grandstand face and return while remaining practical for banner installation and the event programme.

01

The challenge

The three grandstands had different lengths, returns, stair positions and structural interfaces. The banner framework needed to create a consistent fixing line across large elevations while working around the existing grandstand construction.

02

The solution

Tube-and-fitting vertical supports were combined with horizontal catenary wires. The tensioned wire system gave the banner contractor continuous fixing lines, with the mesh sections secured using bungee cord.

03

The delivery

The frameworks were erected, tensioned and prepared across Stirling A, Stirling B and Woodcote A ahead of the Grand Prix, allowing the completed advertising wraps to transform the rear and return elevations.

Technical approach

A simple system, carefully controlled across a major span.

01

Support framework

Tube-and-fitting verticals arranged around the grandstand geometry, generally positioned at approximately 1.5 metre centres.

02

Catenary system

Horizontal 8 mm 7×19 wire ropes forming the banner fixing lines, with three wire-rope clamps used at each termination.

03

Tension and restraint

12 mm tensioners allowed each run to be tightened, while key-clamp details formed short restrained ends at the supporting tubes.

04

Grandstand scale

Stirling B extended approximately 77.3 metres overall; Stirling A included a 44.1 metre front face and side returns.

What this demonstrates

Construction discipline for a fixed live-event deadline.

The project combined tube-and-fitting scaffolding, non-standard banner supports, repeated installation and coordination across a major operational venue.
